It is said that in 16 AH (628), Umer Ibn al-Khattab built the mosque while he was heading to Jerusalem. Built around 1300 years ago, the ancient mosque reflects the design of early Islamic mosques. The 12.7-meter-tall minaret, divided into four floors is one of the oldest minarets in the Arabian Peninsula. The mosque is rectangular in structure and consists of the qiblah corridor, mihrab, minbar, and a spacious prayer area. The back area of the mosque is designated for prayer in winter.
